During the year of 1891, the start of the history of all the slot machines was intended by Sittman and Pitt, in the city of New York. They had five drums that they planned to use as display for the poker hands. You would not win money from these machines as they did not yet feature any payback devices, but you would rather win free drinks and other things, the prizes were normally different every week. Only about one hundred years after the slot machines were invented, online slots were created to maximize the comfort of gambling and allow players to play from the comfort of their own home.
After that came Charles Fey, he was the man to create the first slot, which he made in his basement. This slot was called the Liberty Bell. The machines didn’t become popular until many years later, when they featured in the Las Vegas strip. The first slot machine Charles Fey made was unlike all the others that are available today; it was made from more than 100 pounds (45.36 kilograms) of cast iron and didn’t feature any fruit symbols like many slot machines do these days. Instead of fruit symbols it had traits like horseshoes, stars and the suits of cards; hearts, spades, diamonds and clubs. The winners that played on the Liberty Bell slot machine were paid in fifty cent pieces. The first Liberty bell designed by Charles still stands in the Liberty Belle Saloon in Reno.
After his renowned Liberty Bell slot machine was appreciated by many, Charles then made the Operator Bell slot machine. This machine however, was like the standard machines we see today wearing the fruit designs. When anti-slot machines came about, Charles decided to design a slot machine that functioned like a vending machine. This became a nuisance to the companies that owned real vending machines as many people confused them with the slot machines.
But when it got to the year of 1909 Charles was in for some trouble and had to have his slot machines available elsewhere as slot machines became illegal in San Francisco and then in 1910 became illegal in Nevada too. Then, during the year of 1911 slot machines were banned altogether in the state of California.
Another man associated with the history of slot machines is the famous crime figure, Bugsy Siegel. Siegel constructed the Flamingo Hilton on what we know today as the Las Vegas Strip. Bugsy opened the casino and purchased many different kinds of slot machines in an attempt to provide fun for the women that came to his casino while their rich husbands or boyfriends spent thousands on the other gambling games.
In the early 1960’s, a man named Bally invented electronic slot machines. These machines were a lot more durable than the older ones invented, but they were also nearly impossible to cheat. Many people used to cheat the slot machines, believe it or not, but they some how got it right and a lot of money was missing. But with the electronic machines, the thieves tried and tried but to no avail. The electronic slots started to flood all casinos not long after their invention and now there are only a few places that still house the non-electronic machines.
It was during the seventies that the levers of slot machines were replaced with microchips. This made playing the game a little easier and brought on a whole lot more players. By the 1980’s all casinos had replaced the electronic slot machines featuring levers with the slots featuring microchips and other generators that allowed the machine to function accordingly.
